Book Review: Unrivaled by Siri Mitchell

Back Cover: Falling in Love could be a Recipe for Disaster

Lucy Kendall returns from a tour of the Continent, her luggage filled with the latest fashions and a mind fired by inspiration. After tasting Europe's best confections, she's sure she'll come up with a recipe that will save her father's struggling candy business and reverse their fortunes. But she soon discovers that their biggest competitor, the cheat who swindled her father out of his prize recipe, has now hired a promotions manager--a cocky, handsome out-of-towner who gets under Lucy’s skin.

Charlie Clarke's new role at Standard Manufacturing is the chance of a lifetime. He can put some rough times behind him and reconnect with the father he's never known. The one thing he never counted on, however, was tenacious Lucy Kendall. She's making his work life miserable...and making herself impossible for him to forget.

My Review: Lucy Kendall has a singular focus not to allow her father's company to go under. She, like her father, loves to make candy, and so this book is full of delectable descriptions that cause cravings of many sweet things. I would highly suggest that you not read this book if you are on a diet! While Lucy is working on saving her father's company, Charlie is trying just as hard to destroy it. This novel has the classic story line of two people being attracted to each other only to find out later that they are part of feuding clans. While the story was interesting, and even enjoyable, I found parts unbelievable. For example, without giving spoilers, I kept expect Charlie's past to catch up with him in a more detrimental way. Overall, this is a nice book for a pleasure read.

My Rating:

My Recommendation: I recommend this book to readers of historical christian fiction and fans of Siri Mitchell.
