Book Review: Touching the Clouds by Bonnie Leon

"Kate Evans pushed open the screen door and stepped onto the broad front porch of her parents' farmhouse. This was supposed to be her wedding day. Instead, her lace, floor-length gown hung in her closet." Touching the Clouds, pg 7.

Fearless Kate, that's the name of her plane, and Kate Evans can be fearless, but she is still haunted by the death of her best friend. A death that she feels responsible for. When Kate calls off her wedding to go on an adventure, her mother isn't pleased, but Kate knows that she has to prove herself. She wants to be a bush pilot in Alaska - a job that was unheard of for a woman in 1935. Still, Kate goes and faces the odds, and faces her fears. Can she ever get over Allison's death? Can she forgive herself when another accident puts a new friend in danger?

Touching the Clouds is the first book in the Alaskan Skies series. I enjoyed reading this book and getting a peek into the prejudices that Kate faced as a woman pilot. I learned much about bush piloting, and am looking forward to reading more from Bonnie Leon in this interesting series.

  1. I enjoyed Touching the Clouds very much! Bonnie Leon's book was intriguing and made me smile!

I thought this novel compared very well with others in the world of Christian historical fiction. It had numerous tricks and turns that kept me turning one page after another well into the night.
