Book Review: A Heart Most Worthy by Siri Mitchell

Excerpt: On May 2, 1918, a short article appeared in the Boston Globe. It was only three sentences long; not an article really. Just a mention. It appeared on page twenty-four on the outside column, where most people hold on to a newspaper. I'm sure you wouldn't be very surprised to know that few people noticed it as they read the paper that morning and several people smeared jam on it as they turned the page. Only a few read it. A Heart Most Worthy, pg 11.

Back Cover: In 1918 Boston, three seamstresses dare to dream of a better life.

FIERY Julietta pursues love recklessly.

SHY Annamaria falls for the wrong man.

SECRETIVE Luciana's past endangers them all.

Drawn together amid the opulence of Madame Fortier's dress shop, will each find the fairy-tale ending she seeks?

My Review: Siri Mitchell weaves a fascinating tale of three young women and their quest for love. The historical context of the novel is intriguing, and the story is full of action and suspense. Mitchell uses a very unique voice in the telling of this story, giving us a wider view of what is happening in Boston at that time. Throughout the story, Mitchell talks directly to the reader, giving the book a different feel then most historical fiction written at this time. I'm not sure that it is a devise I would have used, but it seems to work for this novel.

My Rating:

My Recommendation: I recommend this book to lovers of historical fiction.
